Here is my first attempt at needle tatted ANKARS lace. I started working on this during the February 25th morning class. The handout along with the Youtube video really helped me figure the pattern out.

I was able to lurk in Monday’s afternoon lesson but was informed that my mother was put in the hospital that afternoon.  So I was not able to participate in the evening lesson, but I was able to do a little last night while I was visiting my Mother.  I have attached it.

There are a few more ends on it than there should be as my thread started to shred so I had to cut it and reattach it.  I’m going to get some heavier thread today and try again tonight on the Coral pin instructions.
.

In the next photo, I have finished the tatting for the pin.  I think I got this OK.  I should have cinched down my # 8 ring a little more though.

I’ve been having intermittent internet, and was sorry to miss the first Ankars class. Luckily, I’d printed out the assignment, and here are 2 samples of the homework, done in different sizes of thread. it was a bit tricky as the first one in purple shows a major error, as the second half is backwards. ! The second one, tatted in green with hematite beads worked out a bit better. I shall have to work more on my tension.
I hope I’m connected for the 2nd class.

Rita has since finished her pin.  Scroll down to see it, along with earrings to match.

Marie Smith sent me the links from the first Ankars lesson which I missed.  I had a first go at tatting the brooch base.

I think it’s turned out not too bad.  Those VERY large rings are quite hard to close though.  Is there a trick to it?  My thread was a bit soft (it’s DMC Babylo) so I will try it again with a Lizbeth and see if it’s better.

I had another try, with a needle this time:

I find the really large ring difficult to handle, really hard to close… whether doing it with a shuttle or a needle!

I just completed a third one.  It’s the last one now.  I made it with Lizbeth in size 20 and one strand of Gutermann multi-coloured metallic thread.  I will wait until next week’s class to see what comes next.   Closing the large rings gradually was a bit slow-going but it worked well.

Here at last is my homework for the first ANKARS lesson; the rings on the small motif were very difficult to close; the ones on the big pin were very easy to close; there are many thread ends because I had to refill my shuttle often.  The tatting is fairly solid on the big one but I don’t think it would hold the beads big enough to fill the big ring!
Have to experiment some more…
